Apple’s flagship Mumbai Store will open next month, followed by another store in Delhi
After several delays, US iPhone maker Apple plans to open its flagship store in India in Mumbai next month. An exclusive report by The Economic Times also revealed that another outlet will soon be opened in New Delhi.
According to the report, the Mumbai store will be located in the Jio World Drive mall and will cover 22,000 square feet. It will be a retail landmark similar to Apple stores in Los Angeles, New York, Beijing and Singapore.
A second, smaller 10,000-12,000 sq ft store at New Delhi’s Select CityWalk mall is expected to open in April-June, possibly just days after the Mumbai store opens, sources told The Economic Times.
One manager claims that both stores are fully equipped. “Actually, the fit-out was completed before the Delhi store before Mumbai,” they claim, but since the Mumbai store will be the flagship store in India, it will open first.
Apple has yet to officially set an opening date for either store, but it appears the company is testing operations at each location.
India has become more important for Apple in the last few years due to the growing demand for Apple products. In 2020, Apple opened its online store in India, offering Indian customers a direct way to buy products directly from Apple without going through an authorized premium reseller.
Recently, a Reuters report claimed that Foxconn, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer that makes 70 percent of iPhones, makes a significant portion of Apple’s AirPods in India.
To facilitate this, Foxconn plans to invest $200 million to build a new factory in Telangana. Reuters reports that Foxconn has won an order from Apple that will allow it to manufacture AirPods for the first time ever, marking a gradual shift away from dependence on China.
A source has confirmed to Reuters that Foxconn is investing more than $200 million in a new AirPods factory in Telangana, India. However, the exact value of the AirPods subscription is still unclear.
